Kohima | June 22 : Altogether, 41 persons belonging to farmers friend, Block Technology Manager (BTM) and Subject Matter Specialists (SMS)-2011 received mobile handsets and SIM cards from Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Kohima at a function held at DC’s Conference Hall here today.
The distribution of Mobile handsets and SIM Card is part of strengthening farmers friend, BTM and SMS in disseminating information as they link between the government and the department towards development of agricultural activities in their respective areas.
Speaking on the occasion, Kohima Deputy Commissioner Bei-u Angami called upon the farmers friend, BTM and SMS under ATMA Kohima to focus more on development of agriculture as survival of the people depend on agri and allied sectors. Bei-u who is also the chairman of Governing Board of ATMA, Kohima district said the distribution of mobile handsets and SIM Cards may not impress much to many but it signaled that the Government of India as well state government and department have much concern for farmers in order to boost the economy of the villagers through large scale involvement of people in agricultural activities.
On the other hand, he expressed concern over the huge area of wasteland in the state, adding that about 70-80% of land are lying unused. Bei-u pointed out that land belongs to the community in every village which shows more wasteland and less development because people rarely give importance towards proper utilization of the community land. Observing that community land is one of the setbacks for development in any village, he encouraged the people to focus towards private land where they can undertake any type of agricultural activity. He also called upon the villagers to have a perspective action plan in agriculture sector. He also urged upon them to preserve the forest so as to maintain ecological balance.
Earlier, T.V. Holo, additional director agriculture and Director SAMETI ATMA Nagaland in his speech encouraged the farmers to form more Self Help Groups (SHGs) and focus on group extension programme effectively. Also talking on the importance of information technology in the modern society, he called upon the farmers to come forward and march along with other advanced society. District Agriculture Officer & Project Director ATMA-Kohima, Nosezole Zao chaired the function while Seyievonuo, A.O.II, BTT Convenor, ATMA Kohima block proposed vote of thanks.
