A family of three was injured in an assault incident at Chumukedima, Dimapur on September 21. The incident occurred around 8:00 pm at the Chumukedima daily bazaar junction of NH 29, also known to locals as ‘second gate’. According to the police, the family was returning to Dimapur following a family dinner at Chumukedima when their vehicle was intercepted by a group of people at the ‘second gate’ junction. The police said that the group of around 4-5 people came in an autorickshaw and a motor-cycle.

The assaulters manhandled the father and in the melee his son was also injured. The assaulters fled the scene after a passer-by raised alarm following which nearby residents arrived at the scene.

The police while informing that the driver of the autorickshaw was apprehended and detained by the locals, added that search was on to find the others.

Prior to the incident, the father had reportedly reprimanded a group of people, who as was told to the police were allegedly found smoking ganja at the Serouza autorickshaw stand. The assault occurred subsequently as the family were on their way to Dimapur.
