Father surrenders to police in Mon after shooting son

The police in Mon district took into custody a 55 year-old man after he gave himself in to the police following a fatal shooting. According to the Mon police, the man turned up at the Mon town police station on April 4 claiming to have shot and killed his son during an altercation at their home. 

The Superintendent of Police, Mon, when contacted by The Morung Express today, said that the incident happened at Shangnyu village sometime in the afternoon, Sunday. “As per the (preliminary) report, there was an argument between the son and the father which turned aggressive.” In the ensuing violent turn of events, the father reportedly used his gun to fatally shoot the son. 

The son was said to have succumbed to the gunshot wound. Soon after, the father headed to the nearest police station, located about an hour away at Mon town, where he surrendered to the police.  

Based on his statement, the SP said that he was taken into custody and a case was registered under relevant sections of the IPC at Mon Police Station. While informing that the father was in judicial custody, the SP said that investigation was on and charges will be framed as per the merits of the case.
