Mokokchung, October 24 (MExN): Representatives from the Community Conserved Areas (CCAs) of Mokokchung district participated in a one day ‘introductory workshop on community conserved areas management plan’ on October 23 at Longkumer Kilem in Mokokchung.
The concept of CCAs has gained much importance in recent times and has been recognized as a successful model of biodiversity conservation in the State. The workshop was organised by Foundation for Ecological Security (FES) with an objective to discuss the need and requirement of a long term conservation plan to strengthen the community conservation initiatives.
The workshop commenced with a presentation on the concept of CCAs, their importance with respect to community and conservation, and the status of CCAs in Nagaland particularly in Mokokchung district.
The representatives from each village also shared about their conservation efforts and future plans in their respective conserved areas. While sharing about their experiences, successful CCAs like Tzula (Dikhu) Greener Zone and Nanga (Dikhu) Green Zone stressed on the benefits of having a long term conservation plan for the protection of Dikhu River.
The session on the Management Plan Framework and its components highlighted the need of a framework to guide the community in managing CCAs and addressing the conservation and livelihood issues systematically. FES and Nagaland Empowerment of People through Economic Development have jointly developed a CCAs Management Plan Framework to strengthen the community conservation initiatives by assisting them in preparation of a long term management plan in the state.
