Festival brings people together: Rio

Chuchuyimlang, May 3 (MExN): Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio today celebrated Moatsu festival at tourist village Chuchuyimlang and conveyed a message in tune with the slogan ‘Nagaland: Land of Festivals’, Rio asserted that festivals brings the people together.
The chief minister, who was accompanied by a host of his cabinet colleagues and high government officials, expressed deep satisfaction on seeing the Moatsu festival being celebrated at Chuchuyimlang in a bigger and more colorful manner with each passing year. Asserting that celebrating Moatsu or traditional festival is a mark of tribute and in remembrance of our forefathers, he maintained that the people could celebrate the cultural festivals because of the peaceful environment prevailing in the state.
In this regard, Rio pointed out that there was a time when the situation in the state was so bad and that people could not even go out to cultivate their fields because there was a lot of fear in the society. However, by the grace of God and because of the yearning of the Naga people for peace and to bring a solution to the Naga issue, there is a ceasefire in the state and there is negotiation between the Government of India and the Naga underground groups.
While asking all sections of the society to work for peace, Rio asserted that the younger generation and the youth wants peace, because they know that without peace they have no future.
Besides talking about the Naga people and their identity, Rio said that the Nagas, as a people, have their own identity and their own history.
Therefore, maintained that the Naga people should always assert their rights and should uphold their identity; in this connection he affirmed that the NPF as a regional party is upholding the Naga identity.
The almost daylong programme at Chuchuyimlang was marked with traditional dances and songs presented by different cultural troupes not only from the Aos but also from other tribes like the Changs and the Sangtams. Cultural dances and songs were presented by the cultural troupes from Yaongyimjen (Phom), Yangpi (Chang), Chungliyimti (Sangtam), Yaongyimsen (Ao) and Yaongyimti New (Chang).
