Sangtamtilla village Dimapur on Saturday celebrated the premier festival of the Sangtam community, Mungmung at its local ground with former Chairman, Thahekhu Village Council, KK Yepthomi as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, the chief guest reminded about how founders of Thahekhu village, present Sangtamtilla village and other neighbouring areas lived in the true spirit of brotherhood and communal harmony. He pointed out that the same degree of harmony was less visible these days and called for all concerned to revive the friendship which the founder fathers had established and carry forward their legacy.
KK Yepthomi said Naga people have always upheld their festivals as an important part of their culture and tradition and added that such occasion should not be confined only on merry making but to foster friendship and oneness.
The chief guest challenged Sangtamtilla village to join hands with neighbouring villages and march ahead towards progress, development and unity along with the rest of the society. “Let us work together to take forward our community with God at the forefront and progress jointly in the field of education, development and all other positive aspects,” he urged.
Yepthomi, however, cautioned against working for personal gains in the guise of community interest. Irrespective of whoever has settled in Sangamtilla village whether during its inception or even in recent times, all are equally responsible to work for the common interest of the village, he added.
Yepthomi said he accepted the invitation to grace the occasion in order to contribute in a small way to revive the earlier atmosphere of oneness. “Let us all maintain neighbourly relations not only for today but uphold the same spirit of brotherhood in our daily lives,” he urged.
Ato Kukau (Head GB) Thahekhu Village, Hukiye Yepthomi called upon members of Sangtamtilla to remember the pioneers of the village and beseech their blessings. Head GB of Tsithrongse Village also exhorted the gathering while Yolise spoke about the significance of Mungmung festival.
The festival was marked by presentation of various cultural items by Adhoka Group, Atangpi Group and other individuals. Exhibiting a sense of brotherhood, organizers of the festival also invited members of neighbouring villages and various public leaders.
