
Kohima, April 13 (MExN): Financial Literacy Programme was held for women at Dihoma and Jotsoma villages on March 30. It was organized by the Nagaland State Social Welfare Board SCA of NMDFC, SRCW under Financial Literacy Camp Programme supported under FIF NABARD.
Resource person from UCO bank, S.K. Chettri shared the benefits and the reasons why everyone should have a personal bank account. He said that establishing a good reputation with your bank is very important because when you borrow money from the bank it shows that you can pay the money on time. Chettri also shared some of the benefits of holding an ATM card. “In an event when your bank suffers a disaster like robbery, fire, or bankruptcy your money deposited in the bank is protected and safe unlike money save and kept at home,” he stated.
Asalie A. Kruse, Project Manager, NSSWB spoke on the Digital payment programme which is a flagship programme of the Government of India with a vision to transform India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. He explained in brief what digital payment is all about and the process where all the transaction will be done using cards or digital means from paying the bills, buying grocery and vegetables from the street vendors which ultimately will result in managing all the finances from home, office or wherever you are with your smart phone. He also shared some of the benefits of cashless economy like it will becomes easier to determine how much we have spent and accordingly able to manage the budget and also instead of carrying a bulky notes, carrying the required cards will suffice.
Asalie also introduced the Joint Liability Group (JLG) which is a concept under National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) to provide institutional credit to small farmers.
Later in the programme Keduokhonuo Belho of 181 shared on the Awareness of Women Hepline 181, One stop Center and Childine-1098. She shared on how the Women Helpline181 came into being and why the present society needs to be aware of this helpline. She also highlighted that this help lines are toll free, which is a 24/7 service.
