Finding creativity and healing through art

This self-taught artist began dabbling in art a long time ago, but it was the demise of her son two years ago which brought her creativity to life. An exhibition of limited edition prints by artist Grace Zopianga was an inspiring message in so many ways. Showcasing her work for the first time, the artist also shared that it was her late son’s birthday.

She spoke about the power of healing through art and how it works as therapy for her. She expressed sentiment that she wanted her work to relate to people facing similar problems of loss and bereavement. The exhibition “Joy Comes in the Morning” she said was a result of a revelation she had received from the Lord in the time of her mourning. She quoted a scripture from Psalms stating that death is difficult but there’s still joy in the morning. “So I want the viewers to have a glimpse of that through my art,” she added.

Her art style is beauty expressed in every stroke, light and delicate- almost fragile. Images of wildflowers captured first through her camera and later painted painstakingly for hours on end. Wildflowers on her neighbors hedge, flowers seen on the way to Kohima, Morning Glory captured in early dawn- these are some of the expressions caught by the artist on canvas.

The exhibition was held at Windfall, Paku Court, Opposite IMC Hall, Supply Colony, Dimapur and received wonderfully by visitors.
