First Konyak NCS officer no more

CM Rio, Konyak Legislators and others condole LT Konyak’s demise 

Kohima/Mon, February 8 (MExN): L T Konyak, NCS (Rtd), reportedly the first Nagaland Civil Service (NCS) officer from the Konyak community passed away at his residence in Purana Bazar Dimapur on February 8.

LT Konyak, after working as Headmaster at Government High School, Tamlu, joined the NCS in 1977, thereby becoming the first from his community to achieve the feat. 

Later he went to serve the State Government in various capacities, including stints as the Deputy Commissioner of Phek as well as Mon District and Secretary to the Government.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio, the Konyak Legislators and Wenkangshu Puhu have condoled the demise. 

In a condolence message, Rio described late LT Konyak as a “good and dedicated officer, who always worked for the welfare of the people; and he distinguished himself in all the positions he held.”

Even after retiring from service in the year 2006, he continued to work for the people and the Government in various capacities such as Member, High Powered Committee for Revamping of the NPSC Rules; Member, First Nagaland State Finance Commission; and Member, First Nagaland Quality Control Board, Rio informed. 

Late LT Konyak was also deeply involved in the civil society organisations, and served as Konyak Union Advisory Board Member, and Convenor of the Konyak Union Constitution Drafting Committee, the Chief Minister said. 

“His death is a great loss for the people of Nagaland, particularly for the people of Eastern Nagaland. The void left by his death will be difficult to fill,” he added. 

On his own behalf and the Government of Nagaland, Rio also conveyed condolences to the family members of the deceased NCS officer.

“I pray that God grant the bereaved family members peace of mind and mental strength in their hours of sorrow. May his soul rest in peace,” the Chief Minister added in the message addressed to Tingai Konyak, the wife of late LT Konyak. 

The Konyak legislators also expressed sadness over the demise.

“A simple yet one of the efficient administrator and a fine a gentleman of the Konyak Naga is no more and will be missed forever,” stated a condolence message issued by Advisor, Social Welfare, Home Guards & Civil Defence, Nagaland, Noke Wangnao on behalf of the Konyak legislators.

 From becoming the first NCS officer, late LT Konyak stood as beacon of light for the Konyak community and he always been looked up for his leadership and guidance by the Konyak community in varied different times, it said. 

“His selfless service and enormous contributions towards the growth, progress and development of the Konyak Naga are undoubtedly significant. His untimely demise is an irreparable lost to the Konyak community in particular and will definitely create a void which will be difficult to fall,” it conveyed. 

“I, on behalf of Konyak Legislators and also on my own, deeply regret the lost and convey heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members. Our thought of comforts and prayers are with them in this time of sorrow and grief. Rest in Peace,” it added 
The  Wenkangshu Puhu also expressed shock over the demise.

He was a bonafide member of ‘Wenkangshu Puhu’ of India and Myanmar considered as one of its pioneers in particular and Konyak in general, stated a condolence note from its President Chenngam Konyak.

“While the ‘Wenkangshu Puhu’ share our deepest sorrow and sympathy with the bereaved family in this hour of grief, it is our fervent prayer to our Almighty God to grant peace and solace to the departed soul,” it added.
