First priority is to restore peace,’ says Manipur Gov

IMPHAL, JULY 14 (NNN): The Governor of Manipur, Anusuiya Uikey today said that “first priority is to restore peace and solve the issue” through an amicable and peaceful dialogue and therefore, steps have been taken up to ensure restoration of peace and normalcy in the State.

Interacting with the Interfaith Forum for Peace and Harmony in Manipur at Raj Bhavan, Imphal, the Governor appealed them to support and extend their cooperation in the steps to restore peace and normalcy as usual.

The forum was led by its convenor, Deben Bachaspatimayum along with five others including Manindra Konsam, Pramod Chhabra, Dominic Lumon, Ibomcha K and Chaoba Kamson has called on the Governor requesting for early settlement of the ongoing crisis in Manipur. 

The forum requested for taking up steps to stop hate campaigns and speeches in the print and electronic media, to ensure equal access to adequate supplies of food and healthcare needs of all in the relief camps, to open all national highways, to stop all forms of violence and to facilitate trust and confidence for dialogue process between the conflicting communities. 

Meanwhile, a delegation of National People’s Party (NPP) led by its National Vice President, Y Joykumar Singh and two other national vice presidents, Sonelal Kol and SK Sarkar along with Marcuise Marak, Meghalaya Cabinet Minister and Wailadmiki Shylla, MLA, Meghalaya called on the Governor of Manipur, Anusuiya Uikey today. 

They expressed concerns about the prevailing situation in Manipur which has resulted in loss of lives, destruction of properties and displacement of thousands of people in many parts of the State.

The NPP team apprised of the plight of students from within and outside the State, difficulty of the farmers who are unable to do cultivation, economic blockade in NH 2 causing scarcity of essential commodities etc. 

They informed the Governor that as a concerned political party, they are actively engaging with various stakeholders, appealing for peace and urging them to participate in dialogue and reconciliation efforts. 

The Governor assured them that steps to control violence and efforts to ensure a congenial atmosphere for talks are on to bring the two communities to the negotiating table and once the talks are on, definitely, peace will come and there will be an atmosphere of trust and mutual respect which is the key to bring back normalcy as usual.
