
Dimapur, April 25 (MExN): Kiphire district held its first Weekly Iron Folic Supplement Program (WIFS) on April 9 at DC Chamber chaired by Deputy Commissioner, Kesonyu Yhome. Dr. Kibang, District Program Officer, RCH & UIP (DPO) explained in details about the functioning and implementation of WIFS. The WIFS program is to be implemented in all government schools and government aided schools, where students from class 6 to 12 will be given WIFS tablets and De-worming will be done twice a year. Also for non- school going adolescent girls of 10 to 19 years, this program will be implemented through anganwadi centers.
The District level WIFS advisory committee for monitoring and supervision was also constituted that day with Deputy Commissioner as Chairman, Chief Medical Officer as member secretary, District Education Officer, District Welfare Officer, Sub-divisional Education Officer, CDPO’s and DPO as members.
Meanwhile, Capacity Building training on WIFS Program was held on April 24 at IDSP Hall. Chief Medical Office, Kiphire. Dr. Kibang, District Program Officer, RCH & UIP (DPO) and Dr. Amos, Medical Officer, School Health Program were the resource persons. As per the government directive, the training was attended by three medical officers, three SIS (BEO’s), three supervisors of Social Welfare Dept and three ASHA Coordinators of the three Blocks of Kiphire District. The Officials were all trained properly and were asked to train the workers in their respective blocks at the earliest for early implementation of the program. The training session ended with a group discussion and interaction.
Dr. Kibang, DPO also requested the officials concerned and the public in general of Kiphire District for their sincere co-operation in implementing the program for the well being of the adolescents.
