Five districts under Mokokchung division to suffer load shedding

Dimapur, January 20 (MExN): Consumers under Mokokchung Transmission Division “may experience frequent unscheduled load shedding” as a result of the recent fire that broke out at Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) office in Dimapur, a State Power Department official informed today.

As a result, the five districts under Mokokchung Transmission division - Mokokchung, Tuensang, Mon, Zunheboto and Longleng will suffer the load shedding as Kohima load centre is being fed from PGCIL Mokokchung, informed the Assistant Engineer of the division in a press release.  

The Kohima load centre, before the incident, was fed from PGCIL, Dimapur.  

The fire at PGCIL Nagarjan Dimapur, on January 15, damaged cables in one of the power panels, and disrupting power supply to Dimapur as well as severely affecting services of BSNL, especially mobile and Internet.  

According to the release, since Mokokchung and Kohima load centres are restricted to draw only 50MW from PGCIL, Mokokchung during the shutdown period of Doyang Hydro Electric Project, the power availability has been limited.  

The shutdown period of Doyang Hydro Electric Project is 7:30pm to 4:00pm every day.  

As a result, the five Districts under Mokokchung Transmission Division may experience more load shedding hours than usual, the release said.  

The arrangement will continue till the damaged panels are restored and all affected consumers are requested to bear with the inconvenience, it added.
