Flow irrigation system widespread in Meghalaya

Newmai News Network Shillong | April 11   Flow irrigation system is widespread in Meghalaya as this is being implemented in all the 11 districts of the state, according to State Water Resources Minister, Metbah Lyngdoh.   Replying in the Assembly here on Wednesday, Lyngdoh said that the different Central schemes being implemented in the state include Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sanchayee Yojana (PMKSY), North Eastern Council Programmes for implementation of Minor/Micro Irrigation Schemes, Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) funded by NABARD and Normal State Plan Schemes on Minor Irrigation Works from the State schemes.   Highlighting on the criteria required for consideration under the different programmes, he said the farmers of the area should form a water users association and register themselves under the Registrar of Societies Act XXI of 1860.   The proposed schemes should be cleared by the District Water Resources Development Council to check duplicacy and obtaining clearance from other line departments, he said while adding that the cropping pattern for pre project and post project should be approved by agriculture/horticulture department.   According to him, there is no land compensation for construction of minor irrigation projects and that only NOC has to be obtained from land owners and village authorities for taking up the projects.
