Folk dance and song mark youth festival in Nagaland

The Department of Youth Resource & Sports, Nagaland, today conducted the state level youth festival at Indira Gandhi Stadium Kohima. Altogether, 299 youth from 11 districts competed in folk song and folk dance event.

Peren district bagged the first position in folk dance competition while Zunheboto  and Mokokchung district  stood second and third position respectively.

Nagaland Youth Resources & Sports Director Kethosituo Sekhose informed that the winner of both the folk song and folk dance will represent Nagaland state at the forthcoming National Youth Festival, to be held on January 12 next year.

Nagaland Youth Resources & Sports Advisor S Keoshu Yimkhiung graced the closing ceremony and gave away prize to the winners. Speaking on the occasion, he said that youth festival is not merely about entertainment or competition but it serves a much greater purpose.

Yimkhiung said that youth festival provide a space for young generation to express themselves, to explore their interests, and to learn valuable lessons that extend far beyond the stages or arena.

In this, he encouraged the youth to grab the opportunity and utilize it to achieve greater height.

He commended the dedication and hard work that the participants have contributed for this festival.

Asking the youth to carry forward the lesson they learned through this festival, Yimkhiung said “Remember that success is not measured solely by the trophies we received. It is also about the personal growth, the resilience we develop, and the positive impact we make on our communities.”

Earlier, the opening ceremony was chaired by Chubarenla Longchari, DYRO while the closing function was chaired by Megolhu Dolie, Additional Director, Youth Resources & Sports.

Vote of thanks was proposed by Jakedovo Chase, Deputy Director, Youth Resources & Sports, Nagaland.
