Folk dance and women’s day event in Longleng

Longleng, March 8 (MExN): The Longleng District Administration and Mahila Shakti Kandra-District Level for Women in collaboration with PBCA Woman Department, World Vision and One Stop Center jointly organized International Women's Day cum folk dance competition on the theme, ‘gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow’ at BPCA Convention Hall, Longleng.

Womenfolk from various churches and villages across the district participated in the event, stated a DIPR report. During the occasion, BBBP awards were conferred to 22 personalities in recognition of being the “first prominent Phom Woman.” Two personalities, Shamthai, President ENWO and Dr Obangjungla, CMO Longleng were awarded the “Phenomenal Woman Award” in recognition of their excellent service to society. In folk dance competition, Yongnyah block emerged winner followed by Shakai. 

Special guest, M Lemjan, Programme Executive, All India Radio speaking on the theme said that in this rapid changing world, women play a great role. “There are diverse personalities among women but each of us has something to contribute to the society,” she said. 

Society talks about gender equality but it is a sad reality that, gender equality still remains unfulfilled, she said and added that “some causes of gender equality is lack of proper education, lack of work opportunity, job segregation, lack of right protection, abortion, religious freedom, political freedom and many more.”

In the Naga context, she said that “in some Naga churches Senior Pastor is mostly designated to men but we really appreciate our PBCA Executive Secretary for encouraging different association of Phom area to also appoint woman as Senior Pastor and give equal opportunity as men.”

“All women should realise that women empowerment is about realising self worth, it has to start from our self,” she asserted.
