Kohima, July 27 (MExN): Minister for forest, environment & climate change Dr. Neikiesalie (Nicky) Kire today visited Blyths Tragopan Conservation & Breeding Centre here.
Dr. Kire had shown his concern and interest to the Breeding Centre where the first ever hatching of the Tragopan blythii blythii took place.
It may be mentioned that Tragopan blythii blythii, the state bird of Nagaland is a vulnerable status bird under the IUCN category is facing a decline in population.
This sensitive bird faces a threat and with the assistance of CZA (Central Zoo Authority), the BTCBC have been set up in 2012, the only conservation breeding centre set up solely for this species in the world.
Noting the importance, the Minister visited and encouraged the staffs on their hard work and made the time to get a glimpse of the two newly hatched chicks which are around 45-60days old.
The officer in charge also briefed the Minister on the activities of Puliebadze Wildlife Sanctuary, which is the only lifeline source of water to Kohima city. This was stated in a release issued by Keneikrul, forest ranger, officer in charge, BTCBC & PWS Kohima.
