Former BJP members decry DAC

Dimapur, June 7 (MExN): Former Nagaland State BJP president Ato Yepthomi has expressed dismay over remarks of M Chuba, president of the newly formed BJP Adhoc committee, terming it as “political immaturity and (an) irresponsible statement”, a press release from V.Shikuto Sema, former office secy and Basu Damani, former spokesman of BJP stated.

The State BJP had on June 6 held its first state executive meeting after the ad-hoc committee formation following the recent “merger” of a large number of BJP members into the NPF. The Saturday meet of the BJP decided on forming a disciplinary committee against BJP legislators who along with some state executive members had joined the NPF.

Taking objection to the formation of a Disciplinary Action Committee against the erstwhile BJP members who joined the NPF and further expelling them, Yepthomi said that the “subsequently expelling (of) several leaders without even issuing a showcause notice though they are not even existing in this Ad-hoc set up is nothing but a mockery of politics & their Constitution itself,” the press note stated.

The joint press note further asserted that the “then BJP party had legally” convened on May 18 last and dissolved the party with the consent “of an absolute majority” under the powers conferred upon the state president. It was only in line with the powers conferred upon the president “under clause I & IV that thereafter merged the party rank and file with the NPF under particular circumstances to strengthen the hands of the DAN Govt.”

The press note categorically stated that the “merger” with the NPF was done “in the best interest of the Nagas”.

It further charged M. Chuba of even having drafted the statement of dissolution and merger with the NPF. “The drafting of dissolution and the subsequent merger with NPF was also designed by none other than their present Ad-hoc President Mr. M.Chuba.”

Substantiating its claim of a legal merger the joint press note stated: “The legal documents along with the signatures of all the state executive members regarding merger with NPF, more than the requisite number are well compiled in the files of erst while BJP and that can be produced before any court of law, if required at any given time.”

The former BJP members called the formation of the Disciplinary Action Committee by “a BJP Ad-hoc committee” and immediate expulsion of several leaders by “such DAC just after its formation” as nothing but a mockery of their own constitution “which is led by certain leaders who had been expelled by the then BJP due to their anti party activities.”
