Former Manipur CM Rishang Keishing no more

  Morung Express News Dimapur | August 22   Former Manipur Chief Minister Rishang Keishing passed away on Tuesday night at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal. He was 97. He is survived by his wife, three sons and a daughter.   Hailing from Bungpa village in Ukhrul District, Keishing went on to become the 11th Chief Minister of Manipur occupying the chair from 1980 to 1988 and also from 1994 to 1997.   Born on October 25, 1920, Keishing also held the record for the oldest serving parliamentarian in the world. He served as Member of the Parliament in the Rajya Sabha – the Upper House of Indian Parliament – representing the Indian National Congress party from Manipur before finally retiring from active politics on April 9, 2014 at the grand old age of 94.   Meanwhile, the Manipur State Government has announced that it will be observing a three mourning period. The state government has also directed all Government offices and Educational Institutions to remain closed tomorrow, as a mark of respect to the former Chief Minister.
