DIMAPUR, JUNE 15 (MExN): Former President of the Naga Hoho M. Vero has lauded the efforts of the Sumi Hoho, leaders of Sumi NGOs and cadres in both the factions for coming together with reconciliatory attitude resulting in the signing of a ceasefire agreement on June 14 at Zunheboto.
Pointing out that peace and reconciliation has been the Nagas’ slogan for a long time, “yet we have failed time and again to bring together various warring factions in spite of our best efforts”, the former President stated adding that the peace deal between the two NSCNs in Sumi inhabited areas has shed a ray of hope for peace and reconciliation among all Nagas.
“As long as we continue to fight, kill and distance ourselves from each other, so long will the enemy gain. The inevitable conclusion is that we lose the war and lose our goal. All that our opponent has to do is to keep us at each others ‘throat”, Vero cautioned.
Describing it as a silver lining, Vero stated that the ceasefire in Sumi inhabited areas should be the beacon by which all others gunning for each other in all regions will learn and emulate and bring lasting peace in the land. Vero urged leaders of tribal Hohos, organizations and public alike to welcome this historic move and seize this moment to restore peace and reconciliation among all factions, all tribes in all regions to make Nagas a great family.
The NPF party in a separate press communiqué also welcomed the ceasefire understanding and hoped that the Zunheboto experience will be emulated by others. “On this eventful attainment we congratulate Sumi Hoho, the NSCN groups, NGOs and public at large for their initiative in displaying sagacity and magnanimity” the NPF said while expressing hope that the ceasefire is maintained firmly in letter and spirit in Sumi areas.
