DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 27 (MExN): Former Minister and twice Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly Kiyanilie Peseyie passed away this morning at around 2:30am after a prolonged illness. He was 69.
He was elected to the 10th Nagaland Legislative Assembly from 8th Western Angami A/C as NPF candidate in 2003, 2008 and 2013.He served as Speaker of the NLA for two terms and was also Social Welfare and Parliamentary Affairs Minister.
A state funeral service for late Kiyaneilie Peseyie will be held on Thursday, September 28 at Centenary Ground, Jotsoma Village Ground at 1:00pm.
According to family sources, before the state funeral, another brief funeral service will be held on Thursday morning at his private residence at Kuda Village, A khel (Nagarjan) at 8:00am.
Late Peseyie was born on August 1, 1948 at Jotsoma Village, Kohima. He did his early education in Jotsoma, completed matriculation from Government High School, Dimapur and graduated from Guwahati University in 1970.
He joined government service as Inspector of Excise in 1971 and retired voluntarily as Additional Commissioner of Excise in 2002.
He was also President of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, Nagaland Branch; Vice President, NERIPSTR Guwahati; member, executive committee, Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, India region among others.
Late Peseyie leaves behind his wife, 7 daughters, 2 sons and a host of grandchildren.
On Wednesday, hundreds of mourners, well wishers and political leaders including Lok Sabha MP, Neiphiu Rio; Rajya Sabha MP, KG Kenye; Parliamentary Secretary, Tovihoto Ayemi; Chotisuh Sazo, MLA; R Tohanba, MLA; former legislators KL Chishi, Neiba Ndang, Doshehe Sema and W Kithan among others turned up at his residence at Kuda village to convey condolences to the bereaved family members.
