DIMAPUR, AUGUST 27 (MExN): Four localities in Dimapur today extended support to Sunrise Colony (Burma Camp) in their stand against the Municipal Affairs Department for “failing to shift the dumping ground at the present location situated at Sunrise Colony and very close to the Dhansiri River and other municipal areas.”
A joint statement from the GBs and village council chairmen of four colonies/villages, namely Model Colony Council, Darogajan Village Council, Kushiabill Village Council and Bamunpukhuri ‘A’ Village Council said that pollution and solid waste are the most important environmental problems. “Dimapur municipal area is of no exception,” it said and stressed on the need for proper planning and implementation of policies to this end.
The failure to control environmental pollution will result in dire consequences that cannot be predicted, it cautioned. “One must take the whole responsibility of any eventuality that may occur,” it added.
Since environmental pollution is an issue that affects every living being and we cannot remain mute spectators, the joint statement requested the Municipal Affairs Department to relocate the dumping site to another area and “allow us to live in a clean and healthy environment.”
