Zhuikhu Students’ Union (ZKK) on Thursday celebrated its Golden Jubilee at its village ground with Secretary for Land Resources and Finance Department, Y. Kikheto Sema, IAS as the Chief Guest.
Addressing the gathering, Kikheto said that jubilee was an occasion to forgive and forget each other’s misdeeds, cherish the past and to claim the future. He pointed out that it was easy to forgive but hard to forget since others’ misdeeds remain in one’s mind and heart for long.
Harping on clean election campaign, Kikheto noted that even before polls were announced the public had started troubling intending candidates for various reasons. “With such behaviour how can we expect clean election to be successful? We should all change individually first,” he added.
According to Kikheto, clean election did not mean only for Assembly polls but should begin from election of Church leaders, student leaders, NGOs etc.
Stressing on the theme of the Jubilee, “Liberty,” the Chief Guest encouraged the students to liberate themselves from the bondage of selfishness, dishonesty, corruption, laziness and all sort of social menaces.
He also urged the students to inherit the trait of their forefathers with regard to respect for elders, hardworking nature and honesty.
President of Western Sumi Students’ Union, Nito Achumi also exhorted the gathering.
Various cultural performances were presented by Khaibung Students’ Union, Hekheshe Students’ Union and others.
Later speaking at the Silver Jubilee programme of East Dimapur Sumi Students’ Union (EDSSU) as the main speaker, Kikheto emphasized on their theme, “Redefining Generation.” He said redefining a generation would mean changing oneself in every means from bad to good. “Change in dress, fashion, mobile phones etc only do not constitute change but the real change should be positive in one’s attitude, mannerisms, love and respect for one another,” he added.
Kikheto said that the Nagas irrespective of their geographical locations and community should all remain as one emotionally and support each other. “Nagas are a small group of people and we should not disintegrate amongst ourselves but remain strongly bonded in all means possible,” he said.
He described the political crisis that had enveloped the tenure of the 12th Nagaland Legislative Assembly as “most unfortunate” and added that every individual should be held responsible for the mess instead of blaming only the politicians. Also touching upon the issue of illegal immigrants, Kikheto said Nagas should start working for and by themselves and that the work culture would eventually space out illegal immigrants. He also called for a stop to infighting or cold war among different Christian denominations as the believers were all worshipping one God.
President of Western Sumi Students’ Union, Nito Achumi also exhorted the gathering at the programme.
