Peren, July 15 (MExN): A five-day free cataract operation camp at District Hospital Peren concluded on July 14. Out of 271 patients registered during the camp, 44 operations were done including 42 cataracts, excision of one basal cell carcinoma and one severe Pterygium which was causing blindness. 

The camp was organised by District Health Society, Peren with National Program for Control of Blindness & Visual Impairment, Nagaland.

The camp was organised under the initiative of Dr Hedungkiebe, Sr Specialist. The operation team members consist of Dr Phyantsuthung, Consultant, Ophthalmology, District Hospital Tuensang as the main surgeon, Dr Lydia Ndang Sophie and Dr Hedungkiebe as supporting surgeons with a host of others supporting staff from the hospital and three Ophthalmic Assistants. 

Earlier on July 10, Keyirangding Hegui, ADC Peren encouraged the patients to avail the rare opportunity citing the difficulties faced by the blinds which affects our economy and thanked the Medical department for providing the facilities while launching the free camp. Dr Newete Lhomi, Associate Professor, AIIMS also assisted the operations on July 11.
