GBs of New Market, Dimapur and the New Market Business Owners’ Association (NMBOA) in collaboration with the Dimapur district administration has launched a ‘free mask for all’ campaign at New Market starting April 30.
Face masks were distributed to people thronging the market by the volunteers stationed at the entrance from Dhobinalla side.
EAC Sadar Dimapur, Nukshimatong who was present during the launching of the campaign appreciated the “humanitarian works” undertaken by the GBs and NMBOA. Pointing out that COVID-19 positive cases were rising daily, Nukshi emphasized the need to maintain social distancing, regularly wear mask to protect themselves and the community from the pandemic.
The EAC also urged all eligible citizens to get vaccinated against the disease when the government is providing it free of cost. “There are many rumours about the vaccine which are not true at all. The vaccine is safe so please avail the opportunity of free vaccine,” he urged the public.
Later, the EAC who is also the Executive Magistrate of Ward no 19, New Market inspected the odd-even system of opening shops in the market
New Market GB, Khekishe Aye said the market was closed for 167 days last year owing to the pandemic resulting in heavy loss for the business community with many of them running out of saved earnings and `caused distress. “This year, in order to avoid any such situation, the odd-even system of opening shops is being enforced under the directive of the district administration,” Khekishe said thanking the administration and EAC Sadar Dimapur for their support and cooperation.
He informed that the mask distribution campaign would continue for another couple of days.
