Kohima, May 7 (MExN): The Directorate of Women Resource Development has released funds for the Financial Assistance to Destitute Women for the year 2015-16 to the PNGOs. All beneficiaries have been asked to contact the PNGOs of their respective districts.
It was informed in the PNGOs meeting and annual conference conducted by DWWD with its partner NGOs (District & Sub-Divisional Level) on May 3 at the Directorate. Altogether 14 PNGOs covering the entire districts of Nagaland attended the Conference.
Vilone Sakhrie, Joint Director in a press release also informed that, during the period 2013-14 and 2014-2015, financial assistance could not be provided due to non allocation of fund.
Addressing the conference, Director of Women Resource Development, T Haralu, informed that, in its role as catalysts and agents of change and to promote a more active and deliberate involvement of women in the development process, the Department has devised a novel Government-NGO partnership with the apex women organizations in each district.
Haralu informed that every village in a given district has a mahila unit, which is affiliated to the apex hoho in the respective districts.
Thus, a wide network of support workforce is available to the Department. Under this institutional structure, the partner NGOs are involved in conceptualizing, implementation and monitoring of departmental activities in the districts. It is seen that the practice of women being involved in the empowering process accelerates the process of their own empowerment.
The programme was chaired by Khrienuo Tachu, Additional Director and short speech was delivered by Lamkhochong Limsong, Secretary Women Resource Development.
Information and discussion on the various departmental activities in the districts was also held.
Later, a workshop on select gender sensitive issues was conducted with Nzanthung K Yanthan, Women Resource Development Officer as the resource person.
