Future will decide whether I am anti-KSU: Wangyuh

DIMAPUR, SEPT 25 (MExN): Lok Sabha MP from Nagaland, W Wangyuh Konyak, today expressed regret that all his efforts “to construct a common building to house all the Konyak Civil Societies including an office for KSU (Konyak Students Union) at the same building” have been nullified by the student body’s action in issuing a press release which appeared as a news item in the front page of The Morung Express on September 22 last.

Terming as unfortunate the KSU’s venting of “thoughts and disappointment” in the media, Wangyuh said, “It just opens up our ‘kitchen problems’ to the general public, thus undermining the credibility of the tribe and its unions.”

The former president of the student body, then known as the Konyak Students Conference or KSC, said he had given KSU office bearers time after they had asked for an appointment. “I had told them that I could not accommodate their request which was referred to be me by the Chief Minister.”

Wangyuh said he had also suggested that “the present KSU office building which was auctioned by me in the year 1986 and a meeting hall could be converted into a Guest House.” He had asked the students to give him time till April next year.

“It is rather sad that all my efforts has been nullified by just a few public statements, such as ‘being greedy,’ ‘being anti-KSU’ and a ‘liar’ (where construction and auctioning of the KSU building is concerned), plus because of my letter to the Chief Minister where I had pointed out that it was constructed only in 1986 and not in 1960,” Wangyuh said.

The MP said the future will decide whether he is anti KSU or not and whether his sentiments for the KSU is positive or negative. He said he has sanctioned a sum of Rs 1 lakh to the KSU “even though I have not been able to help all the student unions in the different districts of Nagaland.”
