The game of Clean Election (who is wise?)

Neichüvoto Kiso

Much have been said and talked about clean election and the result is out in our hand. Do we really mean clean election to be without money game and other evil forces? Or was it in other sense to clean off the candidate’s pocket? Selling of votes is selling our right was the biggest issue that has been highlighted in every corner.

Nagaland with majority of the population Christians, the Christian leaders play a major role in the faith of our people. Church leaders have spoken different issues in regard to election. Many of our Christian Brothers and Sisters have been persecuted by the so called RSS and what not in different states. When we look into all the religions I believe none of the religion teaches to persecute or do all the evil things. Pointing fingers at the drawback of other religion is nothing when all this happening is occurring here.

Christianity never teaches to loot, kill, fight etc., yet these things prevail in our state. I want to request stopping what the RSS and other groups are doing in the name of religion. Gharwapsi, persecuting other community/religion in the name of religion is against the principles of our constitution as it has given the right to practice and follow any religion. We should say that the act being carried out in the name of religion as immature followers of his or her own religion. Rather we need to teach them the real teaching of the religion. The recent election has shown the color of our faith. Many leaders have played the role in clean election campaign yet when the election knocks our door the pages have turned.

Who is wise? Let us ask ourself. A single candidate spending beyond his capacity to a tune of crores of rupees by selling/ mortgaging/ borrowing in just a month or more to the public with a promise of development. Public/ Community/ Group accepting money from the candidate and demanding to do this and that if voted to power. Had each of the candidate spent the money on road/bridge construction and other developmental activities looking into the grievances of the public then Nagaland would have been in much better shape. Without doubt I believe he/she would easily be voted to power. But playing with money in the last hour what can we expect. The candidate with more money wins. How can the public expect development when we have taken/demanded money from the candidate? So let’s ask am I wise or the candidate. The Choice was ours.

Once upon a time Nagas were tagged as head hunters but now we may tag ourselves as money hunters. Head hunting was practiced to protect/safeguard people from other invaders. People were truthful and justice prevailed in those head hunting days. But in this present world we don’t see any justice. Only money brings justice. Isn’t it shameful to be calling ourselves Christian and pointing other?

We have high number of Graduate unemployed youth and we say that we are educated yet still backward. If we are really educated we should have elected the most capable candidate. I don’t mean to say that the present elected are not capable. Though capable those without money become helpless. Let’s do away with all this favoritism of Uncle/ Aunty/ Clan/ Village/ Range in order to make a better Nagaland.

This was not written with the intention to go against or in favour of any political party/group or religion. It was only an expression of thought. Kindly correct me if I am wrong.
