The general law and order scenario in the State is peaceful and under control with an air of anticipation for a breakthrough between the negotiating parties to the Naga Political issue in view of signing of Framework Agreement between Government of India with NSCN-IM on August 3, 2015 and the Agreed Position with the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) on November 17, 2019.
This was stated in the Annual Administrative Report 2022-23 of Home department tabled in the just concluded first session of 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly in Kohima.
The report of IGP (Int) stated that the State is witnessing relative peace with only three violent incidents with no injuries or loss of lives till date as compared to the preceding year which witnessed 10 violent incidents resulting in 17 unfortunate losses of lives.
The constant monitoring at the Government level and the co-ordinated action of the administration and law enforcing agencies and their commitment to render their services and assistance have maintained a peaceful environment for overall development of the state, the report stated.
In fact, Police exhibiting admirable investigative skills resolved an abduction case within 48 hours with arrest of five UG cadres who were involved in the abduction of infrastructure company employee.
The arrest of the UG cadres led to recoveries of a huge cache of illicit Arms and Ammunitions and incriminating documents, the report stated.
Illegal extortion activities register decrease
Further, illegal extortion activities indulged by underground cadres and anti-social elements has shown decrease with only 83 extortion cases registered till date as compared to 158 and 131 extortion cases registered in 2021 and 2020 respectively due to the tireless efforts of the civil police, SF and pro-active stand against extortion by CSOs and business associations demanding 'One Govt One Tax' and No Unity No Tax'.
With the objective of securing lives, property and security for establishing conducive environment for growth of business and to give impetus to start-up entrepreneurs, the State police continue to pro-actively engage the community through Community outreach programmes and towards this objective, several new Police stations have been established in many districts of the state, the report stated.
