‘Get high on dance, not on drugs!’

The ultimate Nagaland Dance Battle finale on October 17

Nagaland Dance Battle’ an online dance competition jointly organized by Musik-A and Kripa Foundation, Kohima on the theme ‘get high on dance, not on drugs!’ is receiving an overwhelming response since it opened for registration on September 6. After a round of battles, the finale will be held on October 17. 

The competition, sponsored by Department of Social Welfare Department, Nagaland is being organized to bring awareness on substance abuse and at the same time, create an opportunity to provide platform for dancers in Nagaland. 

“This event is designed to both entertain and educate, intentionally weaving important health and social issues of substance abuse into powerful catalyst for behavior change. It will involve young people in and exposing to performance based group activities that indirectly or directly help prevent substance abuse,” stated a note from Alobo Naga of Musik-A Event Management. 

“We got almost 230 entries so far from Nagaland - around 181 were short listed so far,” Alobo informed The Morung Express. He added that there were more than 30 entries from many northeastern states and India, which they have to reject since the competition is focusing only on promoting Naga people. 

The concept
Nagaland Dance Battle is a “first of its kind.” It is a new concept dance battle, where dancers from across the state can come and compete for the title and a running trophy (annual event). The artist has to record their performance and send for entries. 

It will be an annual event where dancers across Nagaland, irrespective of gender, age or place can battle for the championship and showcase their gift to the world, learn from the professionals with intensive workshops and create platforms and open doors for collaborations.

The criteria 
Nagaland Dance Battle is open to any citizen of Nagaland, no age limit and any contemporary styles/genre/forms of dancing (solo only). The entry is free.

The submission of videos will close on September 26. Also All participants have to follow Musikaevents on Instagram.

The battle 
The battle consists of 5 rounds: online selection, round of 16, quarter final, semi- final and the final. The top 16 most liked videos will be automatically selected for round of 16. Judges will select Top 8 for Quarter Finals from the list of Top 16. The fixture of quarter finals will be based on the lucky draw. Viewer’s Choice Award will be based on the audience poll.

For the quarter final battle rounds, there will be a common song for each group. In the Semi Final: Free Style - Dancers will get freedom to choose their own song for this round. The Final which will be ‘Fusion’, the finalist will compose and dance on the theme “say no to drugs” in their own choice of song

The Jury  
The organizers have brought the best in the profession to be the jury. The first one is an international judge, Jong who is a celebrity dancer & choreographer, backup dancers for BTS, GOT7, ONEUS ETC. The other two are Virieno Zakiesato, Choreographer & Creative Movement Artist and Kokliba, Alumni of Rajeev Goswami, Company of Dance and Instructor: Petros Dance Studio.

The prize 
The champion of the first Nagaland Dance Battle will walk away the a Running Trophy, Cash Prize Of Rs 30,000, White Square PWS 20N (Media box & Karaoke machine), gift hampers & certificate, professional dance music video, dance scholarship for 1 year at Petros Dance Studio, workshop with Jong.

The runner up will win cash prize of rs 20,000, gift hampers & certificate, workshop with Jong while the two semi finalists will also win a cash prize of Rs 10,000 each & certificates, workshop with Jong. 

There competition will also have sub titles such as Best Composition; Most Promising; Youngest Dancer and Viewers Choice. All the top 16 contestants will get free passes for dance workshop with the celebrity dancer, Jong.
