‘Go out in the field & work with sincerity’

Nagaland APC urges govt officers to work for welfare of the people

The newly constructed District Agriculture Office, Tuensang district was inaugurated by Agriculture Production Commissioner, Nagaland Y Kikheto Sema, IAS on February 8. 

Inaugurating the new office, the APC stated that the state government for the last 20 years has invested huge amount of money for construction of Directorate buildings as well as district offices out of state plan as well as loan from HUDCO. Therefore, he encouraged the district officers not to just sit idle in the office but to go out in the field and work with sincerity and welfare of the people and make the interest worth. 

He stated that Tuensang district is one of the unique district headquarter in the state with its history as the headquarters NEFA for which he is delighted to be here again, an update from the Department of Soil and Water Conservation stated. 

The APC maintained that the Agri & Allied department are working together to strengthen the agricultural sector in Nagaland. “Our state has less chance to expand big industries. Therefore, the only hope for our people is Agri & Allied activities. We must put more effort in this sector. However, it does not mean we have to stop importing essential items such as medicines, clothes etc from outside the state since we cannot produce it,” he stated. 

“The Agri & Allied department envisions imparting the importance of home-grown food items in our state and the government also have its full support towards it,” he said. 

“Soil testing in all the districts is also being done along with some blocks and there are plans to provide bio-fertilizers in all the districts of our state,” he stated while requesting the Agri & Allied people to sensitize villagers about the “modern farming technology, teach about marketing linkage and by the grace of God the roads of Nagaland are also gradually improving.”

In a short speech, B Nyenghong Phom, Additional Director, Agriculture encouraged to make use of the new office building for the benefit of Tuensang and Nagaland. Elaborating on taking care of the building, he said, “Government properties are no man’s land, and we tend to keep it carelessly without owning it and we must take care of the government properties like our own.”

Giving the technical report, Er Achakbou Newmai, Superintending Engineer (Agriculture) mentioned that the old office building was gutted down by fire on December 8, 2016. The new building construction took three years to complete which lasted from May 8, 2019 to February 1, 2022 which was constructed by Sensoto Construction. The ground floor measures 2141 sq.ft with six rooms, reception floor and three toilets, while the 1st floor measures 1041 sq.ft with seven rooms and two toilets.

The inaugural programme was chaired by K Showuba Yimchunger, DAO, Tuensang; dedicatory prayer by Pastor L Ongmang, Pastor, Yungkük Baptist Church and vote of thanks was pronounced by Wongto Chingmak, SDAO, Tuensang.
