
Dimapur, November 13 (MExN): The Centre and the NSCN (IM) today held talks where both sides discussed on how to maintain a peaceful atmosphere in the State. NSCN (IM) Ceasefire Monitoring Cell Convenor, Brigadier Phungting Shimray disclosed that the Centre was led by Joint Secretary for North East, Navin Verma along with other officials from the State government and Defence ministry during the talks at Circuit House Dimapur. He said the talks centered on maintaining ‘peaceful atmosphere’ in the State. He said both sides discussed the modalities of setting up the ceasefire review committee due next year.
On the prevailing situation in Tizit, Mon especially after the killing of an ULFA cadre and a student, Phungting said that the NSCN (IM) put up a notification to the Centre. “It is how the Khaplang group handles the situation and how the Centre handles the situation…because we have our own way of looking at things,” said Phungting. However, Phungting refused to divulge further detail about the meeting. Other sources could not be contacted for more details.
