Christians across Nagaland observed Good Friday on April 18 with solemn devotion, prayer, and reflection on the crucifixion of Jesus Christ—one of the most significant events in the Christian faith.
As part of the observance, Good Friday was marked with fasting, special worship services, and devotional gatherings in churches and homes.
The day is also featured special dramatic performances and other reflective activities that depict Christ’s final moments on earth, while sermons focus on His supreme sacrifice, divine love, and the redemptive power of Good Friday, among others.
Believers and faithful thronged churches or held fellowships, commemorating the selfless sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross.
In this predominantly Christian state, the week leading up to Easter—known as the Holy Week—holds special significance.
The Holy Week began with Palm Sunday and culminates with Easter Sunday, signifying the resurrection of Christ from the dead—central to the Christian gospel and a source of hope and renewal for the faithful.
Extending his message on the occasion, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio said, “On this solemn Good Friday, we reflect on the heart of the Gospel: Jesus Christ gave His life on the cross to redeem humanity.”
“His selfless act of love offers us forgiveness, unmerited grace, and the hope of new and eternal life for all who believe in Him. Blessed Good Friday to all,” he added.
As Good Friday was observed with reverence, Christians across Nagaland now look forward to Easter Sunday, which celebrates the Resurrection of Christ—considered the cornerstone of the Christian faith, symbolising victory over sin and death.
In many parishes, Easter Vigil services will be held on Saturday night as the faithful await the dawning of Easter with anticipation.
Every year, a special Easter Sunrise Service held at the Kohima War Cemetery, which draws hundreds in celebration of the risen Christ.
Nagaland Governor La Ganesan also conveyed Easter greetings, saying, “Easter is celebrated around the world with great reverence, reminding us of God’s boundless love and the spirit of forgiveness.”
“As we commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, may our hearts be filled with joy, hope, and abundant blessings,” the Governor stated, wishing all a blessed and peaceful Easter.
