Government aspires to make Nagaland a land of music: CM

The golden jubilee celebration of School of Music, Kohima and Rev Dr. Neiliezhü Üsou Memorial Award of Excellence in Music 2019 was held at Rev. Dr. Neiliezhü Üsou Memorial School (new block) on September 3.

 
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio in his address expressed the aspiration of the state government to “make Nagaland a land of music.” Sharing a list of musical and art event in pipeline to be organized by various stakeholders partnering with the state government's renamed TaFMA, the CM said that it will give newer direction to the music industry in the state while giving due recognition to other art form- keeping in mind the idea of "inclusivity" encompassing and encouraging "grassroot musicians." 


The CM also mentioned that Nagas are gifted and born musicians and singers; however, professionalism in the form of training and education was necessary. Towards this, he appreciated the school for pioneering in imparting quality and formal education in Music. He also lauded the visionary of the pioneer for music in the life of not only himself but for the Nagas; further his children for carrying the legacy thus far. 


The CM later assured to give full support to the music and art fraternity in everything possible to support the movement of art.


Earlier, TaFMA Project Director Dr. Hovithal Sothu also conveyed greeting. During the award ceremony, Awardee Zhapus eno Zuyie, Baptist High, Kohima delivered the acceptance speech. 


Other highlights of the programme were release of Golden Jubilee souvenir; and song presentation from School of Music, Nerhema Baptist Church Choir, MHBC choir, RDNUMS and School of Music, Kohima, NCMFA Choir, Azha Üsou, grandchildren of Lt. Rev Neiliezhü Üsou, Ameü  Üsou Zao & the choir.
