Men at work after a retaining wall collapsed and destroyed two houses at supply colony Kohima on June 2 morning.
Kohima | June 2 : Not withstanding the onset of the monsoon, a vulnerable retaining wall, barely six months after completion, collapsed destroying two government quarters JH/SP/78, 79 and 80 located at Supply Colony, below Sahitya Sabha Hall Kohima on June 2nd morning. The wall measuring approximately 30 feet high and 45 feet in breadth collapsed around 8:00 a.m.
The two houses belong to W. Ravungo Khuvung, Section officer Land Resource department and Nevisetuo Angami, Head driver of ROCS department. Major portion of Ravungo’s house including four rooms was destroyed and kitchen materials were completely damaged, however there were no reports of any causality as the incident took place after the children were sent off to school.
Ravungo whose quarter was badly damaged said that he could not save anything from the kitchen except the gas stove. Three other rooms were also badly damaged by the disaster he said. Ravungo said that although household properties were damaged to a large extent, yet there were no reports of loss of life or injuries and thanked God for the miraculous escape.
Civil Defence from Home department was deployed to clearing off the mud. Supply Colony Panchayat, Supply colony Youth Organization, neighbors, relatives and friends and well wishers were all around extending all possible help to the occupants. MLA Dr. Nicky Kire also visited the site and extended financial assistance to both the occupants and also assured possible help. District administration Kohima led by EAC Revenue, C.
