Governor Acharya offers condolences

Kohima, August 14 (MExN): Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya has mourned the deaths of three renowned personalities.  

First, Acharya in a condolence message issued by his PRO expressed shock at the demise of Balram Das Tandon, Governor of Chhattisgarh. He breathed his last at the age of 91 on August 14.  

Tandon, he said, was a close friend and was associated with him for the last 40 years. “Late Tandon’s contributions as a public leader in various positions for the welfare of the people of the Country, particularly for the State of Punjab will be ever remembered,” the Governor stated.  

He further mentioned that Tandon attracted the attention of all with his understanding of public issues, earnest social work, administrative ability and wide knowledge. “His tenure as Governor of Chhattisgarh was marked by efficiency and dedication,” he added.  

The Governor of Nagaland also expressed grief at the demise of veteran politician and former Lok Sabha Speaker, Somnath Chatterjee on August 13.  

He described Chatterjee as a distinguished Parliamentarian and veteran politician who firmly stood by the principles he believed in. His demise is an irreparable loss to the country, Acharya added.  

Governor Acharya also offered condolences to the family of writer and Nobel Prize winner for Literature, Vidiadhar Surajprasad Naipaul, who passed away at his home in London at the age of 85.  

Stating that the demise of VS Naipaul was a major loss to the literature world, Acharya said the deceased will be remembered as a writer who enthralled and influenced the world with his keen observation, creative and often critical description. “He has inspired a whole generation of writers,” the Governor added.  

Acharya conveyed condolences to all members of the bereaved families and prayed to the Almighty to grant strength and solace to overcome the grief.
