Governor joins International Day of Yoga in Kohima

Nagaland’s governor PB Acharya was among the many who joined the 3rd International Day of Yoga organized by the Department of Youth Resources & Sports here today at Indira Gandhi Stadium under the motto ‘Yoga for harmony and peace.’  

The day was observed in pursuance with the directive from the Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, UNANI, Siddha and Homoepathy (AYUSH).  

The programme witnessed over thousand participants from National Service Scheme, National Cadet Corps, Assam Rifles, Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan, Bharat Scouts & Guides, National Ayush Mission Nagaland, Patanjali Yog Samiti, Kohima, Indira Gandhi Academy, Kohima and other government officials.  

State’s Youth Resources & Sports director Linda Solo said the department received a good response with large number of turnout.  

The participants took an oath that “I commit, to make myself into a healthy, peaceful, joyful and loving human being. Through every action of mine, I will strive to create a peaceful and loving atmosphere around me. I strive to break the limitations of who I am right now and include the entire world as my own. I recognize the kinship of my own life with every other life. I recognize the unity of all there is.”  

The occasion also witnessed peace prayer which read, “May All become Happy, May All be Free from Illness. May All See what is Auspicious, May no one Suffer. Peace, Peace, Peace.” The day concluded with laughing exercise.  

Medical research in recent years has uncovered many physical and mental benefits that yoga offers. It is beneficial for physical fitness, musculoskeletal functioning and cardio-vascular health, management of diabetes, respiratory disorders, hypertension, hypotension and many lifestyle related disorders. Yoga also helps to reduce depression, fatigue, anxiety disorders and stress and regulates menopausal symptoms.
