Governor urges for ‘brotherhood & unity’

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 14 (MExN): Nagaland State Governor, PB Acharya today appealed to the Naga people, particularly the Tribal Hohos, Civil Society Groups, NGOs, youth, women and farmers to support the peace process with a spirit of understanding, brotherhood and unity.

In his Independence Day message, the Governor hoped that the people’s efforts would scale new heights in Nagaland for overall development and contribute significantly to the “progress and prosperity of the nation.”

While greeting the people of the state on India’s 72nd Independence Day, he remembered the sacrifices made by Indian freedom fighters and stated that “today is not just freedom that we celebrate, but the rare inner strength and unity of people that enabled our country to emerge as one of the fastest developing nations in the world.”

He further appreciated the armed and security forces “for their concerted efforts in securing the lives and properties of the people.” “We are proud that North East has also contributed equally for the freedom of our country,” he added. The Governor meanwhile stated that the Government of India has introduced a number of welfare projects that have empowered the people.

He mentioned that the Mudra Yojana has made credit available to budding entrepreneurs, with the biggest beneficiaries being women, scheduled castes & tribes, minorities and other “weaker sections.” The Governor further said that quality of life in villages has improved with better roads, electricity, affordable rural housing, toilets and gas connections; along with improvements in market architecture for the agricultural sector.   Acharya added that healthcare delivery in India is now poised to undergo a change at all its stages — prevention, diagnosis, and treatment with the launch of Ayushman Bharat/National Health Protection Mission. He expressed happiness that the Nagaland State Government and Tata Trusts, Mumbai recently signed an MoU to implement a programme for providing comprehensive cancer care in the State.

He also stated that the centre is committed to raising the living standards of its citizens and ensuring inclusive growth for all through the Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas. The new idea of Rajyapal- Wikas Ke Rajdoot, he added, can be catalytic agents for change in society.

The Governor said that he has continued to motivate all the five Universities, Indian Red Cross Society, Bharat Scouts & Guides, Rajya Sainik Board and North East Zone Cultural Centre, of which he is ex-officio head, to identify and motivate beneficiaries of central and state government flagship programmes.

The Governor also touched on the Aspirational Districts Programme, under which Kiphire has been chosen, and informed that the centre has been asked to include Mon district as well.

On the education sector, he focused on the need for the youth of the state to take up entrepreneurship and make Nagaland a “Golden Nagaland by proper use of our natural resources and convert it into wealth by their educational empowerment.”

Meanwhile, pointing to the havoc caused by the recent monsoon rains in the state, the Governor said that government machineries are making sincere efforts for restoring damaged infrastructure and providing relief and rehabilitation. He further appealed to all to “contribute liberally for our brothers and sisters who are victims of natural disaster.”
