Dimapur, August 28 (MExN): The Longkhim/Chare GBs Union has asked the Government of Nagaland to retain the Commandant of 3rd NAP Tuensang and has threatened of an own course of action by way of calling bandhs in all Sangtam-inhabited areas in the event the demand is not met before August 31. The Commandant, Sejungmong Sangtam, was “punished” by the government on grounds that he did not ‘discharge his duties’ in controlling the situation arising out of the Independence Day programme at Tuensang HQ which was prevented from being observed.
“The Longkhim/Chare GBs Union would like to draw the attention of the government and Director General of Police on the posting of 3rd NAP Commandant as Superintendent of Police Tuensang. Shri Sejungmong Sangtam was posted as Commandant 3rd NAP Tuensang recently and frequent posting before the tenure and posting as SP Tuensang at this juncture where there is complex tribal feeling is like adding fuel in the fire” stated a release from the union through its Vice President Y Chopimong Sangtam. The union expressed strong suspicion of “some fishy game of some vested interest persons” and demanded to know from the government and concern department why Sejungmong Sangtam is “being track and punishing him for no fault of his.”
“Therefore, the Longkhim/Chare GBs Union request the government and the department to retain Shri. Sejungmong Sangtam as Commandant 3rd Tuensang and if the government did not review the order before 31th August 2006 the union will take its own course of action by calling indefinite bandh in all the Sangtam inhabited areas” the union warned.
