Chief Electoral Officer Nagaland says collective support required
Kohima, April 4 (DIPR): The Chief Electoral Officer of Nagaland, Sanjay Kumar had a meeting with some Government bureaucrats and departments with regard to cleaning of electoral roll (E-Roll) in the State at Hotel Japfü on April 4. Deliberating on the issues pertaining to National Electoral Roll Purification (NERP) 2016 drive, the CEO stated that to clean up the present electoral roll, it requires collective support of all Government and private institutions, State level NGOs and every responsible citizen as it contains duties and responsibilities of every individual in the State. Stating that Nagaland was the only State in the whole world which has a negative growth rate in the last decade, the CEO remarked it as a serious abnormality and further asked all departments concerned to contribute as to how best “we” could collaborate and cooperate to strive for the successful implementation of the NERP drive. He urged the departments to educate, spread awareness, motivate their respective employees on NERP 2016 & SVEEP and ensure that there are no multiple registrations in the E-Roll and also to go for Aadhaar Card entry to link up in the E-Roll. He added that a Pledge card will also be a supporting measure which could bring about a large change in the matter. The CEO also informed that there is an Award for some good practices as directed by the Election Commission of India.
Commissioner & Secretary YR&S, Menukhol John opined that the multiple entries in the E-Roll is because of human issues/problems and further urged to think out of the box in order to tackle the issue. Secretary Forest, Imtienla suggested that in order to spread awareness, a common message or discussion on the issue in all the local dialects could be broadcasted in the FM Radio. The Joint Forest Committees in Nagaland and Eco-Clubs under Nagaland Pollution Control Board could also spread the awareness in their respective areas, she said. Director, Youth Resources & Sports, Asangla Imti shared that the department will educate and create awareness on SVEEP among the various organizations such as NYK, NSS, BS&Gs and NCC. She also shared her past experiences as ERO and stated that the most active groups in the election process in rural areas are women groups and youth, while in the urban area, it is the unions.
Additional PCCF (T), Dr. Ramesh Aima; Secretary Health & Family Welfare, Senti Ao; Joint Secretary Social Welfare, Z. Nyusietuo Nyuthe also shared their views and suggestions during the meeting. Deputy CEO, Vekho Vero also gave a brief highlight on the SVEEP and celebration of 6th National Voters’ Day and further requested all departments to spread awareness in their departments’ websites to celebrate National Voters’ Day in the rightful manner.
The NERP 2016, an intensive drive which was launched on March 1, is to be completed on or before August 31, 2016. The drive was launched with the main objective to improve the health of the Electoral Roll (ER) and to rationalize the Polling Stations (PSs) boundaries and location. The NERP drive will also include enrollment of all citizens and removal of repeated and multiple entries, entries of dead, shifted and absent voters, correction of errors in EPIC and removal of other data errors. During the drive, repeat images will also be corrected, missing photographs will be collected, and poor quality of images will be replaced by good quality photographs.
