Govt faces flak for bad roads

KIPHIRE, SEPTEMBER 11 (MExN): The DAN Government has got itself messed up in another tangle following its decision to hand over the maintenance of 155 National Highway (NH) from border Road Organization (BRO) to Nagaland Public work Department (NPWD) (Akash Bridge to Tuensang Town). According to the Kiphire District Congress Committee, the entire public regardless of political party difference has been disturbed by the unexpected state Governments’ decision.

It was disclosed that the duo elected representative from Kiphire, C Kipili and T Torechu denied being consulted on the decision and is said to be totally in the dark about the handing and taking over of the road.  Terming this attitude, in not consulting their elected MLAs while taking such major decision, as an insult, the KDCC has appealed to all NPF and BJP party workers of its district, to quit from the respective position in the party, if the road NH 155 is continually kept under NPWD. The Committee cautioned that failure to comply with this decision by the NPF and BJP workers would make them a part of the wrong decision for which ‘not only during the election but their existence in the social and political part will be continually question for generation to generation’.

This decision was made its consultative meeting on September 9, where it stated that the DAN leadership’s decision for taking over 155 NH from the BRO is directly insulting to the backward people and an imposition of economic an educational offence against its own soil. It condemned the state government for the ‘forcible’ decision taken without proper assessment of the NPWD’s working strength irrespective of machinery, manpower, fund position and performance of sincerity. “DAN leadership may hide and speak so many political lies to cover up their wrong decision but that will never cover as people of Nagaland have seen them as this provoking decision has been taken only for personal financial gain in favour of the DAN leadership and their MLAs” the committee stated. Under such circumstances, the KDCC urged upon the state authorities to revoke the decision and that 155 NH should immediately be re-handed over to BRO for maintenance of the road failing which  it asked the BJP and NPF  party workers to quit their membership in the parties at the DAN Government.

It may be mentioned that this handing over of Highway 155 has met with resistance from the United Sangtam Likhüm Bümji, the Seryochung Area Student’s Union United Sangtam Students’ Conference, Pochury Frontal Organisation and several other organizations over the past week.
