Govt talking for the sake of talking: NPCC

DIMAPUR, MARCH 20 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) President, K Therie today stated that talking about the Framework Agreement “for days and years without knowing the contents presents the sordid state of affairs plaguing the so-called opposition-less Government.”

A press note from the NPCC President claimed that the present state government “fear people will think they have betrayed because they have come together in the name of Political Solution. Yet when they talk, people understand that they don’t know what they are talking about.”

“If MLAs are talking without authentic information and if MLAs are talking wishful thinking, who should be presenting the facts to the people?” Therie questioned.

Therie further claimed that national political leaders have assured support to the PWC of the JLF “provided it is good for the people.” “National leaders have asked them if they know the contents of the Framework Agreement, they could not reply.”

He stated that national Congress President, Sonia Gandhi had “said in clear terms to the Chief Minister, the MP and PWC delegates, that the Congress will support any solution that is good for the people but cannot give a blank cheque.”

“I have also heard leaders talk for an early honourable and acceptable solution. The words honourable and acceptable sound nice...nice words do not qualify for solution. We have to make a list of things that are honourable and acceptable to the people,” Therie said.

Stating that some people think there is need for a referendum, the NPCC President said: “I don’t know, may be in good time. For now, people aspire for peace, safety, security, freedom, one tax, one government and development.” He further asserted that the Congress would not “talk for the sake of talking nor beat around the bush.” “In our endeavour to solve the political problem, we will present a list of things that we believe are honourable and acceptable to the people,” he added.
