
Kohima, August 26 (DIPR): Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, Trade and Commerce, Wangki Lanwang, Parliamentary Secretary for Trade and Commerce, Tesam Pongte, Director of Fisheries, Josil Taba, and three departmental Officials from Tirap, Chauglang and Longding visited Nagaland on August 24. The team was accompanied by Additional Director of Fisheries, Imtitongzuk Longkumer, Joint Director, Agricultural Jacob Yanthan and other officials on their visit to project sites at Dzuleke, Khonoma, Jotsoma and Jakhama.
Terming his visit as a beautiful moment for him to be in Nagaland, the Minister, Wangki Lanwang said that though a small village, the concern and respect for nature by the people of Dzeleke is a big message not for India and Nagaland but the world as a whole.
Taking the example of the system in Arunachal Pradesh the Minister suggested on interlinking the tourism industry with that of fisheries to boost the economy of the village. He said that he has learned something new and that is the effort being put into development and conservation naturally. He also said that we should change our concept and attitude to nature and life. Later, a short interaction programme was held at Tourist lodge, Dzeleke.
The Minister appreciating the sincere efforts of the villagers in conserving the environment and nature, donated Rs.50,000/- to the village. With high regard for their sincere efforts, he said the village should be an eye opener of nature conservation.
Also speaking at the programme, the Chairman, Village Council, Avi thanked the visiting team for their visit and assistance. He appraised that the villagers have set stringent rules towards conservation of the same. He further sought the assistance from the government for extension of fishery projects in the village.
Team’s scheduled visit to the unique alder cultivation at Khonoma village was cancelled due to the incessant rains. Organic vegetables and products were displayed at Khonoma village. The entourage was also served with local cuisines and organic foods.
The team later visited the memorial tomb of GH Damant MACS who was killed during the great battle of Khonoma and the Khonoma fort. Additional Director of Fisheries, C. Imtitongzuk said that Dzuleke people are so calm and hard working with sincerity and honesty.
While on their visit to Jakhama, he said that Paddy cum Fisheries in Jakhama was started from early years when the then Director of Fisheries brought the system of cultivation after his visit to Japan.
