High level security coordination meet stresses on curbing extortion activities

A high level security coordination meeting reviewed the prevailing security scenario in the state of Nagaland and also stressed on the need of deploying more forces and patrolling parties at vulnerable areas in order to curb the menace of extortion and anti-social activities.

According to reports, Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio had convened the security coordination meeting recently in Kohima, which was attended by the IGAR (North), J P Nehra, SIB Joint Director A. K. Mishra, Chief Secretary, Lalthara, IGP (INT), Home Commissioner H. K. Khullu and others.

Sources said that the meeting reviewed the security scenario in the state while Chief Minister favoured deploying additional patrolling parties at various places with the help of Assam Rifles and also step up vigil to contain extortion activities in the state. Rio also stressed on curbing the menace of extortion on top priority and also to flush out underground cadres from the populated areas.

Expressing serious concern over border issues with neighbouring Assam, which has become volatile in the past few days, Rio called upon security forces to be watchful about the developments taking places in the border areas.

The meeting suggested increasing the presence of Nagaland Armed Police (NAP) personnel in the state, especially for frisking and security related issues, which would be strictly maintained and handled by the law enforcing agencies.
