Tuensang District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) meeting was held at DC’s Conference Hall on August 6 after four-months break due to COVID 19 pandemic.

The meeting was chaired by DC and Vice Chairman DPDB Tuensang, Kumar Ramnikant, IAS which was conducted following necessary guidelines as prescribed to prevent COVID 19 spreading.

Lamenting the poor conditions of roads and bridges in the district, the DC said, “Only in Tuensang, we are welcomed by potholes and bad roads.” He asked the department and the members to work on improving the roads.

Supplementing with the DC, YTC President, Throngso stated that citizens have to bear extra burden by hiring two trucks instead of one as the tonnage of trucks has to be reduced owing to weak bridges. He also urged the department to “rescue the citizens.”

Responding on behalf of the department concerned, the EE NH informed the house that the entire stretch is “Bailey bridge” which is very old and even replacing nuts and bolts does not serve much. He admitted that “the department is also in fix.” He also said that the construction of new bridge will be possible only when two-lane project is taken up.

Some of the members suggested writing through DPDB to the department to improve the existing iron bridges so that truck can carry additional tonnage.

The deplorable condition of the National Highway between Mokokchung and Tuensang was deliberated upon, stated a DIPR report.

Meanwhile, the DPDB forum approved the LADP schemes for seven assembly constituencies for the session 2019 - 2020. It also discussed on the Independence Day celebration and work distribution for the same.

In lieu forthcoming Independence Day the district will be organizing social work on August 12 where employees will clean up office premises and the wards will be asked to clean up the respective wards.

An agenda on upgradation of Themjen memorial school Kuthur village from class VIII to class IX was also discussed to be forwarded to the Education Department for approval.
