DIMAPUR, APRIL 19 (MExN): With the world fast moving towards globalization where “moral, ethical and God-fearing people are not wanted,” the general secretary of National Council of Churches in India (NCCI), Rev. Dr. Roger Gaikwad urged the graduating students of Trinity Theological College (TTC), Thahekhu to remain steadfast to God.
Rev. Dr. Gaikwad was delivering a graduation address during the 16th Graduation Service of the College on Saturday. The preacher was critical of the ill-effects of globalization, which according to him, takes away the efficient services of the young people to serve the interests of the rich people and big foreign companies. Rev. Dr. Gaikwad said it might seem like people are prospering if they get handsome salaries by serving in foreign companies but added such globalization was actually taking away the creamy layer of brainy people from the land. Implying that it was a brain drain taking place, he said, “We consider it to be development if our young people are getting huge salaries.” He said wealth and prosperity also appeared to have crept into Churches which are becoming bigger and turning into beautiful mansions with air conditioned facilities.
Rev. Dr. Gaikwad said the globalised world only wanted “clever, handsome and crooked people” to serve the economic interest and did not want moral, ethical and God-fearing people. He said it was in such context that the graduating students were venturing out, and encouraged them to have faith in God like the Biblical Daniel and his three friends who refused to fall down and worship the image of gold that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up, even though they were to be thrown into the blazing furnace.
He also urged the congregation to be aware of new Church movements coming in with promises of prosperity, miracle healings etc which actually might be ravenous Wolves in a Sheep’s skin.
During the graduation service, the college annual magazine was released by Ghovili P. Achumi chairperson Board of Governors TTC. Altogether, 61 students graduated upon whom a dedicatory prayer was said by Director, Sumi Baptist Convention, Rev. Dr. Khehovi Shohe.
