Horti Advisor requests more Central support for horticulture development

Dimapur, July 27 (MExN): Nagaland’s Advisor for Horticulture, Mhathung Yanthan met with the Union Minister for Agriculture Radha Mohan Singh at his residential office in New Delhi.  

The Advisor was accompanied by the Principle Secretary for Horticulture, MK Mero and Director of Horticulture and Mission Director MIDH, Dr. R Elithung Lotha.   According to a press release from Chumbemo M Patton, Public Relations Secretary, Advisor for Horticulture, the Union Minister was apprised of the ongoing developmental activities of the department under Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH).  

Singh, it said, appreciated the performance of the department and also remarked that Horticulture is one of the major income generating sectors for the entire North-East region.  

The Advisor also requested for more support to horticulture development in Nagaland for doubling of the farmers’ income in the State, to which, the Union Minister gave assurance that his ministry will extend all possible support and cooperation, the release stated.   Mhathung further highlighted the activities of Central Institute of Horticulture and also the issues relating to strengthening of man power of the institute.  

A letter in this regard by the Chief Minister of Nagaland, Neiphiu Rio was submitted to the Union Minister.
