Nagaland Horticulture Department has during 2015-16 envisaged the establishment of three Centers of Excellence in Phek, Tuensang and Dimapur with the objectives of showcasing the various activities of horticulture.
It aims to create facilities and infrastructure for hi-tech horticultural production/cultivation of crops both under poly houses as well as open field conditions, according to the annual administrative report 2015-16 of the Horticulture Department tabled in the state assembly session here recently.
The purpose of such facilities being created is to impart technical knowhow to the farmers from such centres besides generating revenue for the state. High value crops of fruits, vegetables and flowers would be grown in the centres.
Further, the center aims to produce quality materials, facilitate timely supply of quality planting materials of horticulture crops to farmers, reduce the adversities of natural calamities on production of quality planting materials and produce of horticulture crops, ensure modification on the planning time of horticulture crops, reduce field mortality of quality planting materials of horticulture crops, permit accurate crop scheduling, promote multiple crops per season per unit area, minimize wastage of expensive seeds, increase per unit production of horticulture produces, impart training to farmers/ entrepreneurs/ staffs and act as a demonstrative farm for farmers with an earmarked amount of Rs. 650.00 lakhs, the report added.
