Horticulture officials discuss implementation of CSS prog in Nagaland

Dimapur, March 3 (MExN): The Commissioner and Secretary, Horticulture Nagaland, Y Kikheto Sema, IAS and Dr R Elithung Lotha, Director of Horticulture, Nagaland met Vasudha Mishra, Special Secretary, Rajbir Singh, Joint Secretary & Mission Director MIDH and Dr BNS Murthy, Horticulture Commissioner, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Government of India at Krishi Bhawan, New Delhi on March 2. 


They discussed various matters and issues related to implementation of CSS programme in Nagaland. 


Kikheto while acknowledging the Ministry for the support to the state's farmers through various programme requested the Ministry Officials to make the programme guidelines and cost norms more farmers friendly particularly for the NE Region to which the Ministry Officials assured to look into it. 


Kikheto raised the importance of easy availability of quality planting materials for the successful plantation and also issue of assured irrigation facilities by providing water harvesting structures were discussed during the meeting. 


They also had an interaction with the Chairman and Managing Director of National Seed Corporation, Vinod Kumar Kaur and discussed regarding necessary tie up for procurement of quality seed materials.


Later, the state Commissioner and Secretary accompanied the Special Secretary VASUDHA Mishra and visited High Tech Horticulture Centre & Precision Farming Development Centre (PFDC) at Indian Agriculture Research Institute (IARI)/ PUSA Institute New Delhi where the team was shown by the Scientists the various crops being cultivated under hi-tech poly house condition and hydroponics cultivation. 


In the PFDC, the team was also shown and demonstrated various micro irrigation systems including fertigation system. Besides, the officials had an on the field interactions with group of farmers from Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan especially on the adoption of micro irrigation systems and cultivation of crops under Poly house in farmers' fields. 


The farmers expressed much benefits being gained on adoption of the above innovative technologies. On seeing the new and innovative technologies in the Centre which are likely to attract the young and educated in the state in the farming sector, Kikheto requested the Special Secretary and also the Horticulture Commissioner who is also the Member Secretary for development of PFDC to establish one such Centre in the state of Nagaland.


Sema and Dr Lotha also visited the ongoing farmers’ mela and exhibition at IARI/ PUSA Complex.
