DIMAPUR, JUNE 16 (MExN): After twelve days in captivity, CDPO T Sashi finally returned home safe but in a highly traumatized state Wednesday evening, June 16. The CDPO along with his driver was released by his abductors at around 2:00 pm from somewhere near Doboka, near Hojai in Nawgaon district. A relative of the released hostage said that “no transaction of ransom took place for the release”.
The relative narrating the turn of events revealed that the kidnappers released the CDPO and his driver around 2:00 pm from somewhere in the forests near Doboka today. After they were released they walked for about three kilometres and were able to catch a truck through which they were able to reach the highway. From the highway they got on to a bus and came to Manja in Karbi Anglong district.
They reached Manja around 5:00 pm where they were located by a combined team of Assam and Nagaland police and relatives. They were then escorted to his home in Dimapur by a team of Nagaland police led by SDPO, Dimapur Shouka Kakheto.
It is believed that the kidnapping was pre-planned. The relative said that the main accused one Zakir Hussain was known to the family as a carpenter. On June 4 when they set out for Hojai the relative said that the main accused offered to drive after they reached Manja. As they reached Doboka the relative said the accused stopped and got out of the vehicle taking along the keys with him. Suddenly five people came towards the vehicle and took control of them. After that Zakir Hussain was never seen by the hostages again.
From there the hostages were taken into the jungle where they were kept till the day they were released. The relative said that because of the CDPO’s vulnerable physical condition the abductors were compelled to keep the hostages at the same place the whole duration of the ordeal.
It is learned that the main accused Zakir Hussain, who is still absconding has many criminal cases registered against him under Bokajan police station itself.
The family of CDPO T Sashi extended special gratitude to the Muslim community of Dimapur for their enormous effort in the release of the CDPO. The family also lauded CDPO’s driver Akum Yimchunger who never left his employer’s side. The relative said that many opportunities arose for him to escape but he never did standing by the CDPO and looking after him.
