Huhtangrü Village wins Showuba Memorial Volleyball Trophy 2026

The Showuba Memorial Open Volleyball Trophy, 2nd Edition, Shamator District Volleyball Tournament) concluded on April 9 at the Public Ground, Shamator, following three days of competitive matches and active participation from teams across the district.

Organised by the Shamator District Volleyball Association (SDVA), the tournament culminated with Huhtangrü Village emerging as champions, while Frontier Legends, Pongrongrü finished as runners-up.

The valedictory programme was attended by MLA and General Secretary of the Nagaland Football Association, Benie M. Lamthiu, represented by P. Pokoi, President of Pathso Public Organisation.

Earlier, SDVA president K. Yaksokiu Yimchunger, in his welcome address, expressed appreciation to the special guest for continued support and acknowledged the efforts of participating teams, officials and supporters in ensuring the success of the tournament.

In his address, the special guest highlighted the role of sports in shaping disciplined and responsible individuals, stating that games like volleyball not only build physical strength but also foster awareness and character among youth. He noted that volleyball plays a vital role in strengthening community ties and promoting unity.

Superintendent of Police, Shamator, Suresh Shinde, also addressed the gathering, drawing parallels between volleyball and life. He said the sport reflects the importance of teamwork, adaptability and coordination, where different roles must function together to achieve success. He added that such qualities are essential beyond the court, contributing to personal and social development.

In individual categories, Dungtikhum of Sunny Young Club, Tuensang was adjudged Best Setter, Yantsuba of Frontier Legends, Pongrongrü received the Best Spiker award, while Lato of Frontier Legends, Pongrongrü was named Best Back. Kirito of Huhtangrü Village was declared Player of the Tournament.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by SDVA General Secretary Lato, followed by prize distribution by Amongba Janger, team manager of SDVA, and a benediction.
